Great Valley Middle school students received top honors at the Chester County Science Research competition at West Chester University. Om Gagrani was awarded first place in computer science in the middle school division. His project on utilizing artificial intelligence and convolutional neural networks for early lung detection captured the eyes of the judges and he received third place for best of show out of all middle school projects. Om will be moving on to compete at the Delaware Valley Regional Science Fair. Ryan Joseph will also be joining Om at the regional fair after receiving a prestigious first place award in the earth and space category in the middle school division. Ryan’s project focused on what impacts astronomical visibility. Sravan Mateti’s flame test project received the Kenneth P. Lehman Lehmans Terms Memorial Award for physical science. Sravan also received a $50 gift card.
These students pursued inquiry-based science through problem-solving, planning and conducting research investigations, and using appropriate tools to gather and analyze data. Good luck in the Delaware Valley Regional Fair.
