GVMS News and Information

Congratulations to the members of the GVMS quiz bowl team on their outstanding performance at the National Quiz Bowl Tournament held in Chicago on May 11th and 12th. Team members Neel Rege, Smeet Thaker, Vishi Sharma, Connor Tran and Aryan Amirtharaj qualified for the tournament due to their performance earlier in the year.  After two days of intense competition against teams from across the country and around the world, the team finished an impressive 13th place, the highest finishing of any team in GVMS quiz bowl history. They played as a team and worked hard to continue to improve over the last three years. Best of luck to the team as they continue playing next year at the high school level.  GVMS is extremely proud of them all.

The reimagined middle school schedule is set for launch in August 2024. Details about the updated schedule and the elective selection process can be accessed here. Additionally, please click here for more information detailing next year’s 7th and 8th grade elective offerings. Families are urged to revisit next week for a video series showcasing the revised schedule and how to complete the elective selection process.

Congratulations to the following Envirothon Team members on their accomplishments at this year’s Chester County Envirothon.

Great Valley A Team: Silas Bricker, Anjana Sakthikumar, Caleb Fulmer, Sushanth Kuppireddi and Thushitha Pullur Gunasekar

Finished 4th place Overall in the County

Won Forestry category for MS level

Great Valley B Team: Aditya Dronamraju, alternate Pranav Dronamraju, Teddy Sacheniuki, Reuel Thota, Jaikrishnan Sampathkumar and Lya Haas

 Finished 3rd Overall in the County (they beat A team by 3 points)

Won Current Issue category for MS level

The Great Valley Education Foundation would like to congratulate Ichi Jamis and Faridah Ismaila for winning the GVMS SOAR art contest! The SOAR contest recognizes GVSD artists from 5, 8, 11, and 12 grades. Students in 8th grade were encouraged to submit an original piece of artwork for this juried competition.

The winning artworks will be framed and hung in a permanent collection at the Great Valley District Office.

The Chester County Science Research Competition took place in March with many awards going to Great Valley Middle School Students. These students pursued inquiry- based science through problem-solving, planning and conducting research investigations, and using appropriate tools to gather and analyze data. We are proud of all of their accomplishments.

To Our Current 6th & 7th Grade Families:

We are excited to announce that the re-imagined middle school schedule will take effect during the 24-25 school year. We are inviting families of current 6th and 7th grade students to join us for a middle school schedule presentation on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Great Valley Middle School. Two sessions have been scheduled for your convenience. The first session will begin at 9:00AM, followed by a second session at 6:30PM. Both presentations will cover the same information and offer opportunities for questions and feedback. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend one of the scheduled presentations to learn more the re-imagined middle school schedule and how it will impact our students’ educational journey.

The purpose of the orientation is to provide the following:

  • Rational for the Re-Imagined Schedule
  • Overview of the Re-Imagined Schedule
  • Similarities and Differences Compared to Current Schedule
  • Examples of Student Schedules
  • Elective Selection Process for Next School Year

We look forward to sharing more about the re-imagined middle school schedule and its potential benefits to our students.

GVMS Robotics had a great day at the Eastern PA State Robotics Championships on Saturday. Team 7517G, consisting of 6th grader Anirudh Kunde, 7th grader Saeesh Rattan, and 8th graders Sushanth Kuppireddi and Hemraj Nalimela, won the Create Award. This award recognizes a creative engineering design solution to one or more of the challenges of the competition.

Team 7517C, consisting of 7th graders Yazhini Ammatha, Sathish Kumar and Jolie Hua, and 8th grader Anjana Sakhti Kumar, won the Design Award. This award recognizes an organized and professional approach to the Engineering Design Process, project and time management, and team organization. Student demonstration of the Engineering Design Process is fundamental to the educational value of REC Foundation programs. This award recognizes a team's ability to document and explain their Engineering Design Process via an Engineering Notebook and Team Interview.  In winning the Design Award, Team 7517C has earned a place at the VEX World Robotics Championships in Dallas, Texas in late April.

As you can imagine, we are immensely proud of not only these great students, but of all of the 21 students in the GVMS Robotics program.  We had a great season where we faced some incredibly strong competition, and the grit and resilience of these kids never ceased to amaze us.  If you see any of them, please congratulate them!

Many thanks to Wegmans of Malvern and the Giant of Westtown for their donations. With their help, our 6th graders were able to prepare 25 birthday kits for the People’s Pantry, and 84 snack bags for Caring for Friends.  In addition, 6 blankets were donated to Project Linus.  Cards and food boxes were decorated for the Chester County Food Bank.  Parent donations included food items and diapers for the People’s Pantry and the Chester County Food Bank.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and helped to make this a successful event!

The team had an outstanding performance at the Burleigh Manor Middle School Invitational Tournament. Neel Rege, Vishi Sharma, Smeet Thaker, Connor Tran answered 10 rounds of questions to come in third place overall at the tournament, qualifying them for the NAQT National tournament in May. Additionally, Neel Rege was recognized for being one of the top ten individual players in the tournament. Great work, everyone!
